Dr. Jill Timmons – Studio Policies

Effective Monday, June 1 through Monday, August 31, 2020

Please read this carefully – new policies

With some forty years of teaching and performing experience, I offer students a chance to develop their musicianship skills, performance competence, expand their knowledge and experience of piano repertoire, acquire greater technique, and find news ways of enjoying the process of music making. For more information regarding my performance and teaching career, visit my website: www.artsmentor.com. You may also find my recent publication through Oxford University Press a useful tool in your preparation: The Musician’s Journey–Crafting Your Career Vision and Plan.

Studio Calendar: Since there are unknown conditions forthcoming regarding the pandemic, I am scheduling students through August 31. I will resume scheduling for the fall session in late August.

Virtual Lessons: With the Covid-19 Pandemic, I am now offering appointments on a number of virtual platforms. On July 7, I will provisionally open my Netarts Studio to in-person coaching. My Portland studio in the Recital Hall at Classic Pianos is now closed to the public.

In-Person lessons at the Netarts Studio: If I see you in-person, then payment is made at the conclusion of the lesson and is made in the form of cash or check. Cancellations: Cancellations require a 48-hour notice in advance of the lesson with the exception of an “Act of God” (“a direct, sudden action of natural forces that could not have been foreseen or prevented such as a flood, hurricane, earthquake, debilitating illness, death in the family, or other natural catastrophe outside of human control”). Otherwise there will be a 50% charge for the missed lesson. As we schedule for the next three months, please review your own schedule for any possible cancellations and be thoughtful about the scheduling needs of others. Make-up lessons are per availability in the schedule.

Payment:  With the opening of my home studio and the new fiscal year July 1, 2020, I will resume my regular fee. An invoice is provided for each month of scheduled lessons on a virtual platform (FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, etc). Please pay by the due date listed on your invoice.  On the other hand, if you are having an in-person lesson in Netarts, then you can pay with cash or check at the lesson. PayPal was recently hacked, so I am wanting to avoid that option. Call if you have questions. All payments are made out to Artsmentor, LLC (not my personal name), and for virtual lessons they are mailed to: Jill Timmons, P.O. Box 99, Tillamook, OR 97141.

Instruction: Students are expected to be thoroughly prepared for each coaching session, having practiced their assigned material. Practice expectations will be determined per the level and goals of each student. Students who consistently come unprepared or frequently cancel lessons may be dropped from the studio. Your fee covers all ancillary phone/text/emails that require a brief response from me. If you need more than 5 minutes outside the lesson time, I will ask that you schedule a separate appointment with me, with 30 minutes being the minimum.

Books and Supplies: Students are responsible for obtaining all assigned material. On occasion, you may check out music or other references from my studio library.

CONTACTING ME: During the week, I do not check text/phone/email messages after 8pm until 8am the following day, nor do I work on Sundays. I resume talk/text/email at 8am on Monday mornings. You will, however, receive a lesson reminder on Sunday, the week of your lesson. Please look for that confirmation in your email system. If you do not receive a lesson confirmation from me and you have on your calendar a coaching session, contact me right away.
