BLOG: The Sandian Table
My “Sandean Table” refers to an extraordinary 19th Century salon led by writer George Sand in her country manor located in Nohant, France. She shared her home with Frédéric Chopin. In the salon of this petit chateau, Louis XVI chairs surround a famous oval table built by a village carpenter from a cherry tree that once stood in her garden. “It lent its back to so many things,” wrote Sand, “wild or ingenious writings, charming drawings or disheveled caricatures, models of all sorts.” On any given evening you might encounter Liszt, Flaubert, Balzac, Delacroix, Turgenev, Chopin, and many other luminaries. Art, ideas, plans, and affection were all shared around this table… Join me in my virtual Sandean Table… --Jill
